Someone (Breen)
She walks every evening before the sun goes down
And she loves to look at houses on the way
She sleeps in on Sundays
goes to church at noon
Drinks coffee by herself down by the Bay
And almost all her friends are married now and busy with careers
And sometimes she wonders why she stays away
Because they reminder of a time not too very long ago
When she always had someone to make her feel whole

She bought her self an easel at the store the other day
And she started painting landscapes in the park
She loves the way the autumn leaves swirl across the ground
They make her feel like dancing in the dark

And the mornings are like water now they’re clear and cool
But at night the hours move a little slow
Because they remind her of a time not too very long ago
When she always had someone to make her feel whole

There’s a picture on the table she keeps turned the other way
of a young man on a corner
in a blue ceramic frame
and if you ask her about him
she won’t tell you his name
she’ll just say he’s someone

She rises Monday morning works of 40 hour week
Takes Wednesday evening class in modern Art
There’s a wall in her apartment she’s been meaning to paint
because sometimes she thinks the blues a bit too dark

And the guy who lives behind her keeps saying hello but whenever he walks by she gets afraid
because he reminds her of a time not too very long ago when she always had someone to make her feel whole
