PAST LIVES by Mike Breen

I dreamed I had a past life
seems so real I think it must be true
I was a priest in Southern France
the year was 1862

Alone I watched one afternoon
the roses in the chapel garden bloom
I heard a playful robin’s tune
and the parish ladies as they cleaned the pews

said a prayer to Mary for the worked I’d yet to do
turned to leave and then I started thinking about you

CHORUS
Past lives I have known them
Past lovers now are friends
I remember now and then
there is no end

You were the girl from Avignon
A vision on the convent lawn
you made the Pope go back to Rome
and gave this orphan heart a home

when suddenly I had to go
France invaded Mexico
knowing that our time would end
we made a vow to meet again

said a prayer to Mary for this love so strong and fine
here you are still with me another place another time

CHORUS
Past lives I have known them
Past lovers now are friends
I remember now and then
there is no end

Now you teach high school history
I read French poetry
we go to the same church on Sunday

CHORUS
Past lives I have known them
Past lovers now are friends
I remember now and then
there is no end

there is no end
